About the people who grow it
This Sumatra Mandheling Grade 1 double-picked coffee is sourced from the Gayo Sinar Cemerlang coop. The coffee is processed by a meticulous wet-hulled method following international standards, and is “double-picked,” meaning the coffee cherries are hand-sorted twice. This helps ensure fewer defects, and a cleaner, brighter cup profile than most.
The coop has an abiding commitment to quality, sustainability, and empowering local communities. It is a woman-led organization, whose founder and CEO, Syahruna, is a visionary leader dedicated to transforming the coffee industry in Aceh. They attest that farming while protecting the environment is their priority. Through organic farming practices and shade-grown cultivation, they seek to minimize deforestation and land degradation, while preserving biodiversity.
